Hello Community, for those who don't know, I am Kiwi, I like to think myself to be a large contributor to the forums and members.
I've noticed a lot of people are still quite confused about the current ranking system, so I would like to shed a little light on the factors and the bits of info I have learned.
(Note that the numbers I use are only for scaling purposes)
Each gametype has you play 5 matches before you get placed (placement matches), usually if you play well it will place you between Silver 1-3 or if you do amazingly Gold 1, but I have never seen anything passed that. And if you do poorly/lose most of the 5 games you will be placed between Bronze 1-3.
Now that the placement matches are finished you come to trying to rank up, but first let me go over how the ranks work.
For each level of rank rank there are a finite amount of places that can be taken except Bronze 1, there are an infinite amount of players that can be Bronze 1. As the levels advance there are less and less places to be taken. For example (each gametype follows the same scheme):
Diamond - 5000 players at a time can achieve this rank
Onyx - 15000 players can achieve this rank, and
5000 per 1-3
Gold - 30000 players can achieve this rank, and
10000 per 1-3
Silver - 50000 players can achieve this rank, and
16.6k per 1-3
The way to rank up is simple, at least the thought is, you have to score high and win. Winning alone is not enough to rank up, being in the top 3/10 in the lobby really helps your chances with a win. Even with a loss you can still rank up, but usually you have to be MVP.
That being said, some people go 15+ games and score in the top 3 but still don't go up, especially when being Onyx 3 trying to break into Diamond. The reason for this is because there are other Onyx 3 players that are doing better than you, and you have to surpass them before you continue up, unfortunately there is no way to find out how high up you are, but this is the reason behind it.
Breaking into Diamond, there are two ways to become Diamond, You either got there fast in the beginning of the season, or you grinded hard and worked to get it. If you are a loyal player to a certain gametype and strive for that Diamond, the way you get it is by continuously playing and kicking someone from their Diamond to Onyx. Sadly you don't know what it takes, but this is how it goes. The ranking system is a huge "leaderboard" based on points and wins.
So in the end the way to rank up breaks down to doing better than someone else and knocking them down in rank.
Ive seen lots of posts as to why people lose rank and why they go down even with a win, the reason is the opposite of ranking up, someone else has done better than you. Maybe you scored well but lost/won but scored poorly. You can just as easily loose rank. Yes it sucks a little to de-rank, but it happens. Often the de-rank doesn't happen until later or even the next day just because the system is catching up with ranks.
Heres another reason people may de-rank even after 1 loss. (This happened to me) I achieved Diamond in all score gametypes and tried to maintain them all, but unfortunately some went unplayed, KotH to be specific, I hadnt played in over two weeks as it's my least favorite to play. I played one game and lost. The ranking system hadn't caught up so I thought I was still a Diamond, but I got on the next day to see that I had been dropped to a Gold 1, two whole tiers! I was furious. But once I'd realized that it had replaced me based on my total points (I am assuming this because it's all that makes sense).
Now there is one issue with the ranking system that should be fixed that hasn't been yet. Your rank will never change if you don't play. I am currently maintaining a Diamond in Warzone that I got in the first month of the game, 26 straight wins and MVP for the majority of them. However, I do not play it which means I cannot go down, and some poor soul cannot go up.
I believe TC should fix this and have ranks constantly updating to allow determined players to rank up more easily. Otherwise it seems unfair, let's say Warzone has 3000 out of the 5000 Diamonds taken up by players not even playing, this means you have to surpass the top 2000 players in the gametype and it makes the spots harder to take.
Most matches are done fairly, but sometimes you come across a weird situation where there's one Diamond an Onyx and some placement or Bronze and your team is a full 5 Diamonds. You need to remember that that could be a 5-man and it's placed you based on their top players. And I believe this is the reason it would do something of the sort.
Now the other day I did come across the strangest matchup, my team was 4 Diamonds and an Onyx 3, you would expect something similar or a bunch of Onyx right? Well for this match you would be wrong, we got placed with 5 Silvers 1-3, I didn't know what to say, I was actually really confused and thought why it would do this. Of course they were slaughtered, but I just felt bad for them.
Dont nut know what this could have been, but maybe it was a 5-man vs 5-man? Anyway, this is how I believe the ranking system works and I hope this helps.
I've made a list of things I consider to be bugs and a second list of minor in-game/menu tweaks that I personally would like to see.
Bugs - I don't have videos for all of them, but if anyone has something similar please post it
I will be starting my very first "Top 5 Plays for my YouTube channel. Please submit as many videos as you like. Send videos in the form of links and I will view them from there. YouTube links and Xboxclips are great to use.
I'm not sure how to motivate people, but perhaps I will do in the future for the #1 winner some type of prize.
Email me at "firstname.lastname@example.org" for submissions.
