Heroes of the Swarm & Swarm Reinforcements
(All work and art is credited to "I AM AD0PTED")
Here is an artist that went above and beyond within the Gears community to make his own concept art for Gears of War. His artwork has caught the attention of many, including myself, I asked him if it would be ok if I could post his images here and share them with the community, please have a look and feel free to leave comments and future concept art requests.
AD0PTED has told me he is working on 3D Sculpts of some of these and that he is also working on a few other concept designs currently. I personally have asked him if he could do a design for one of my favorite book characters, Donneld Mathieson, a COG Lieutenant who had his legs blown off, but later Baird gave him some robotic legs. He would be a cool addition. Ill post news when there is some.
Heroes of the Swarm:
Swarm Reinforcements :
Monarch is the new General of the Swarm Horde, a cunning, manipulative Scion who clawed his way to the top of the hive. It is believed he not only worshipped Queen Mira, but was actually enamored by her; only amplifying his hatred towards the COG and whomever killed his precious queen. Whilst the other Swarm believe they need to replace the queen, Monarch despises the idea of anyone filling her role, and secretly longs to end her lineage so none could even try. A schism exists between the hive on the idea alone of whom is worthy to lead the Horde.
Nothing special other than his particular breed of ruthlessness and large mass, Legion was born in a deep pit alongside countless other Drones only to carve a legacy through sheer will. Brute strength, cunning, and an insatiable bloodlust are traits well known to him, and pain is more or less alien to him. A true alpha among Swarm Drones, he eyes the position of General but bides his time until Monarch misses a step. The only thing he loves more than fighting is fighting with melee combat; a count added to his own carapace for each kill with his knife. During one encounter with a rowdy group of gears, he was slashed with a revving chainsaw bayonet that cost him one of his eyes and deeply scarred his carapace. Needless to say, it wasn't enough to stop him.
Carve is a careful, vicious, and particularly sadistic Scion. While most Swarm are violent, he goes out of his way to slaughter COG and innocents even when it ultimately serves little purpose or gain. It is known his obsession with the COG, specifically in hunting down retired COG members and adding their COG tags to his bloody collection. It is unknown how exactly he locates them. Even his armor is a mismatched assortment of COG and Locust design. He revels in inflicting pain; the designated torturer and executioner of the Swarm Horde.
Sephtis is mysterious 'man' of great valor and intellect; a former scientist-turned-king to a brooding monstrous horde of creatures. Little is known about his past, save for those who remember brilliant minds that once changed the world of Sera long before E-Day... His obsession with imultion and technology is only matched by his lust for power. If Mira was the biologist among the horde, then Sephtis, the engineer. Little is known about his twisted appearance and apparent hatred for humanity, or the depth of his relation to former queen Mira.
When translated from human to Swarm, genders are usually all but neutralized... But in a freak mutation, one human was transformed into a strange breed of abomination quite new to the Horde. Not a Swarm but unfamiliar among the old Locust, Morana lives as an outcast even among monsters. She serves as the right hand of the ruler as a quiet assassin and infiltrator, and uses such opportunities to search through COG bases for something, or someone. Rumors from outsider communities regard her as the "silent reaper", from the rare accounts of survivors. Among one such rumor was that after a dazzling massacre, she soon broke down in tears... Not because of the death, but at the sight of her own reflection in a passing window... Suggesting that at one point, she may have very well been a beautiful woman.
No description, just the KIng
Efreet is a Swarm Drone who was born with a unique biological property; His internal fluids emanate light between carapace plates. This reaction is amplified when Efreet experiences a particular level of bloodlust; the more he kills, the brighter his glow. Because of this, he often leads a group of Swarm into battle as the tip of the spear. The brighter his glow, the greater the morale of his fellow. His unique emission holds him in high regard among the other Swarm, many worshipping him as some kind of god or messiah among the hive.
The Swarm Theron is an elite and cunning member of the Swarm Horde. The Therons are hand-picked drones that are segretated from the rest of the horde to focus on training for versatility in the field while equipped in massive heavy gear, alongside mastering their aim with the torque bow. The Swarm Therons had not been established for some time after the Swarm rebirth since the imulsion that detonated torque arrows had gone dormant, but recent reintroductions of the weapon in a functioning state also rekindled the Theron class. Modern therons are seen as religious and sacred warriors among the Swarm, as their blessing comes from the elusive Swarm Kantus' themselves.
The Swarm Mauler has been refitted to serve as a walking fortress of destruction. Bigger, Stronger and more intimidating than his predecessor, the Swarm Mauler charges blindly into battle and worries naught about taking fire. His flail has been outfitted as a single, massive Bolo grenade for an exceptionally strong explosive/melee weapon. His shield was salvaged from a Locust Mauler, where traces of Imulsion have crystallized into indestructible crystals, adding more defense to an already impenetrable foe.
The Swarm Berserker (or Swarmzerker, ha-ha... ha) is an uncontrollable mountain of chaos. She charges rampantly when freed from her shackles, whether it be among the Swarm hive or through a COG settlement. Though her eyes are wide, her vision is poor as ever, but she makes up for it with brute strength and speed. Heavy Chitin is built up on nearly all layers of her body, offering impenetrable skin, even by Swarm standards... Save for one small weak spot. Long, hairlike tentacles whisp from the back of her neck and shoulders. Both of her mouths, the one on her face and the maw in her chest are capable of spewing hazardous acid that could eat through heavy metals in a matter of seconds... Perfect for easy gnawing on helpless opponents.
The Swarm Kantus is the reigning religious caste in the Swarm Hive. His bloodcurdling chants echo throughout the Swarm Hives, despite being able to communicate with the hive mind nonverbally. Mysterious and nightmarish rituals are performed by the creatues, often involving the blood or organs of humans. The Kanus towers over most men at nine feet tall, and his visciousness is only matched by a Berserker or Swarmark. Swarm Scions learn their chants from the famous Swarm Kantus' in order to use them on the battlemfield, bolstering the morale and strength of fellow drones.
The Swarm Brutalizer is not a fan of modern weaponry. Something savage are ferocious pulls his towards a more personal, vicious and primitive method of combat. He is larger and more menacing then his grenadier and Drone counterparts, yet not as cunning or high-ranked as a Scion.. The Swarm Brutalizer thrives on bloodlust, both for combat and the taste of human blood. He is a sadistic creature, even by Locust/Swarm standards, and enjoys mowing down hordes of humans with his massive serrated blade whilst ignoring most pain in a trancelike battle-rage.
